Varifocals
Question for you other four eyed cunts....

Anyone use varifocals? Picked mine up Saturday and although I have read it can take people days or even weeks to train the brain/eyes to use them properly I am STRUGGLING.

Feels like I'm permanently dizzy and pissed.

I DON'T LIKE THEM.

I have an option that if I don't get on with them then within 3 months I can change for two pairs one for distance and one for reading.

Varifocals are SHIT. FUCK OFF

Re: Varifocals
Give it about a week to get used to them.

I struggled at first, especially walking around, it felt like I was sinking into the pavement!

Definitely better than keep swapping glasses

Re: Varifocals
A MATE of mine is an assistant in an opticians shop. When I floated the idea of varifocals she was adamant that I wouldn't have the patience for them. Having said that, what a chore having to swap between two pairs according to the task. Can't win either way.

Re: Varifocals
Had mine for around 6 years, a total revelation, also have varifocal sunglasses, superb for driving.

My advice is to stick with them, took me about 10 days of tripping up pavements and nodding my head to get the correct field of vision but once your brain realises what is going on it adjusts, just give it some time.

Stick with them, much more convenient.
I've had both my cataracts done. After 60 years of being as blind as a bat (-10 in both eyes) the difference is life changing.

Re: Varifocals
Yeah I'll stick with them but this feeling of being dizzy all the time ain't great and also trying to distinguish between use for distance and reading/laptop

Got 3 months grace so if not happy can always change back

Fucking old 4 eyed cunt

I started wearing glasses at Christmas

Got varifocals too and I'm struggling. Glad to know it's not just me.

My eyesight is very good in my right eye, but left one suffers dp don't NEED them and not wearing them full time yer as they're irritating. Trying to wear them more.

I am getting used to them... but still don't like them

I can see the benefits but it's bloody awful, making me feel dizzy and sick but I know perseverance is key. If I really don't get on with them I'll change back FOC but I want them to work as it's much easier having one pair

TBF to Specsavers who mine are from they said some people simply can't get used to them which is why they offer the exchange and why I've kept old glasses just in case

Re: Varifocals
I have never had an issue with mine from day one, about to get varifocal contact lenses and am not sure about that.

perhaps it could be to do with the strength of your vision and the difference between them?

Re: Varifocals
It dawned on me over the Christmas permit that I need glasses (to read). Reckon I'll struggle on for as long as I can before I join the SPECKY FOUR EYES club.

Becoming middle aged sucks. My body is slowly failing on me.

Yep patience is the key with them!

I know exactly what you mean. Been there and felt exactly the same, even down to the fuck off in caps bit.

Give them time. You WILL get used to them. It'll take a few weeks. Then you won't be able to do without them.

Re: Varifocals
Been wearing varifocals for about 10 years. Couldn't do without them, especially now that everybody communicates by text. I'd be swapping glasses all day.

Re: Varifocals
When it comes to reading you got to point your eyes down to the reading bit of lens without moving your head.

When going down steps point your eyes to the main part of the lens.

It about training your eyes without moving your head. The top of your glasses are the horizon.

It took me a while to get the hang of it but I'm pleased that I persisted now.

It's much better

Struggled with mine for about a week and then took them back and they changed them to previous prescription. Apparently you have to retrain your brain to use them, I guess my brain just wasn't up to it

I've tried the contact lenses, wasn't that impressed. They are ok in bright. natural light but as soon as I got indoors I struggled to focus on my mobile/books etc.

Might have improved since then, it'll be interesting to hear how you get on...

Re: Varifocals
Can't recall if I struggled or not with my first pair (ooooh-errr, missus!).

Got them in Indonesia back in 2003/4 where they were as cheap as chips.

Changed prescription roughly every 3-4 years since then. Last lot were the proverbial kick in the bollocks at over 300 sovs per lens and reusing old frames I had.

I tried them once in the Opticians, walked out of the store got to about 100 yards and walked straight back, I'm a 2 bins man now.
